(UPDATE) Landlord wants to sell my apartment

Main Post:

Original post from a week ago below or on my bio.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NetherlandsHousing/s/d6KMGQCU

Update: I expressed being grateful for being offered the chance to purchase the apartment and confirmed my interest in exploring the possibility of buying it. I asked for more details about the sale, including the timeline, process, and the asking price.

His reply:

He replied that he spoke to a realtor already and based on market price per sqm it should be €528,000. But for me he can make it €500,000 minimum, including the furniture. And that his offer was valid for 1 week. He said if I declined he plans to just put it in the market and thinks it will sale quickly due to the location

With all this said tomorrow morning I'm going to the Juridish Locket and ask for legal advice and also hiring a makkelar as someone suggested, maybe he accepts a fixed rate so he can hopefully come to the apartment and see what it is actually worth since everything inside the apartment is very old, so landlord might have a wrong idea of the actual price. Also the WOZ price online puts the price of the apartment at 415.000 which is interesting.

Thank you all for reading me, your advice and your replies! (:

Small side note: WOZ and market values are two different things. The WOZ value is the value of your home on January 1st of last year. This value is an estimate based on comparable homes. The market value is what your home is currently expected to yield in the sale.

My apartment threw out $20k worth of my belongings from my storage.

Main Post:

A storage unit came available in my apartment complex a few months back and my roommate and I called our property manager to get access the storage. He agreed and turned our key fobs on that allowed for us to go to the storage area of the complex. We moved our things in a few weeks later, no complaints. This past month, the apartment complex said everyone needs to claim their storage unit by Feb. 1st. I called downstairs to claim our unit that same morning. Leasing wasn't available but our front desk staff said she got it and will let them know. A week later, I went down to my storage as usual, but this time, my key fob wasn't working. I then contacted management and long story short, they said they never gave me a storage unit at all. They implied that my fob somehow illegally gained access to the storage unit, but all of our items are now gone. The manager said to give him receipts of our lost items, and we sent them over. We were then told that there was no way we could have had almost $20K worth of items in there because they looked old, etc. Although the receipts show purchase dates from years prior (ofc they'll look old and worn!). The pricier items, he conveniently said they weren't there after "looking through" our items. He contacted their legal dept, as this is a corporate landlord and they said since I didn't sign a contract for the unit, there's nothing they can do. I reviewed my lease and saw that we signed a storage addendum clause. It doesn't show anywhere on my lease that a new addendum with the unit number would need to be signed to have legal rights to the unit. We were under the impression that once the storage addendum was signed in the original lease, all the property management had to do was add it to our account. There was no way for me to know this, again, it's not stated in the lease what their policy is on gaining legal access. I filed a renters insurance claim but I am concerned it may get denied as it is more of a civil case, instead of the standard theft/vandalism claim. Do I have grounds to sue? or I can't because I didn't sign a revised addendum?

Help I'm freezing in my apartment

Main Post:

Hi everyone,

I’m in a tough spot and need some advice. I live in a 1950s apartment where the building controls the temperature, and the heat from the old vents is minimal. It’s freezing in here, and I’m struggling to stay warm.

I bought a small heater from CVS, but it blew a fuse almost immediately. The apartment only has three fuses: one for the living room and bedroom (on the same fuse), one for the kitchen, and one for the bathroom. I tried plugging the heater into the kitchen outlet, but it doesn’t heat much space.

I’m considering running an extension cord from the bathroom outlet to power a heater in the bedroom since the bathroom has its own fuse. I’d also like to run a better heater into the kitchen. However, I’m not sure what type of extension cord is safe to use with a space heater. I know they draw a lot of power, and I don’t want to risk a fire or other safety issues.

I’m looking for recommendations on two things: 1. The safest type of extension cord for a space heater. 2. A reliable and efficient space heater that can warm up a 400 sq. ft. room without constantly blowing fuses.

I’m desperate for a solution—it’s unbearably cold. Any advice or suggestions would mean so much to me. Thank you!

Get a thermometer & check the actual temperature inside your apartment. Depending on where you live, laws regulate temperatures in apartments & the landlord has to keep temps within certain limits.

AITA for not letting a homeless woman in my apartment?

Main Post:

My homelessness is a very, very long story, but very recently I've gotten an apartment with the help of the city and I now live on the Southside of Chicago. After a long day of work when it's now cold and dark, a homeless woman I felt sorry for asked and begged me to let her in my apartment saying she needed to be somewhere warm and to charge her phone. I couldn't help but have deep empathy but at the same time didn't want to get in trouble with my landlord due to having past bad experiences or risk getting taken advantage of. She ended up begging and saying how cold it was outside and I made the hard decision to leave her there, should I have let her stay the night in my apartment or at least the lobby? I was thinking of the latter but don't want to risk pissing off the neighbors or my landlord.

This is wild.

TBH, I would get a professional to clean this up and forward their invoice amongst the other one for the new food directly to your landlord.
